E Street Band

February 19, 2008 - The E Street Band is more than just three words that come after Bruce Springsteen. They have been touring with Bruce on and off (mostly on) since October 1972, but wasn't officially called that until September of 1974.

Members include:
Garry Tallent (bass)
Calrance Clemons (saxophone)
Danny Federici (keyboards, accordion)
Roy Bittan (keyboards)
Max Weinberg (drums)
Steven Van Zandt (guitar, vocals)
Patti Scialfa (vocals, guitar)
Nils Lofgren (guitar, vocals)
Soozie Tyrell (violin, vocals)

The band recorded with a number of big name artists from Bob Dylan and Meat Loaf, to Peter Gabriel and Aretha Franklin. During the "off season" when they aren't touring with Springsteen, the E Street Band record solo materials which has allowed their professionalism to kick up a notch. They have been record producers, songwriters and actors, along with many other roles in the entertainment industry.

The band's name was rumored to have come from a street in Blemar, New Jersey (the Boss' home state) where former member David Sancious' mother lived.

Max Weinberg is probably the most well known among his fellow musicians. Weinberg is the leader of The Max Weinberg 7 that perform on Late Night with Conan O'Brien and has been since 1993.

Steven Van Zandt starred in the 1999-2007 show The Sopranos as Silvio Dante.
